Chris of "Joe's Table for 2" recently visited Angelo's Fairmount Tavern in Atlantic City. The experience revealed why this establishment has been a true dining icon in the city for generations. Opened in 1935, the inside of the restaurant captures the true feel of what an exclusive Italian meal should be. Old pictures line the walls, including some of Italy itself, capturing the true essence of the country in which this cuisine comes from.
The garlic bread was fresh, with provolone cheese melted right on top. Also sampled for an appetizer was the stuffed shrimp jammers, which was fried shrimp stuffed with Monterey jack cheese and served with a side of marinara sauce. This would have been the perfect appetizer had the shrimp been a bit larger in size but it was tasty nonetheless!
The main course consisted of linguine in a white clam sauce. The pasta was tasty and the dish was loaded with clams, which is how a dish with clam sauce should be. The clams tasted amazing as well and did not disappoint. The other dish was a classic spaghetti and sausage dish. The sausage was large and bursting with flavor and the pasta was well cooked.
The dessert consisted of cappuccinos and a ricotta cheese cannoli. The cannoli was completely filled, which is how a cannoli should be, and tasted sweet and amazing! The cappuccino was the perfect after dinner beverage to sooth everything down as well!
Angelo's Fairmount Tavern is a place that continues to thrive in Atlantic City, serving up classic Italian dishes with a small, homemade atmosphere. It is not expensive at all for a "Table for 2", and is an eating experience that will leave you wanting to come back to taste the next home cooked meal at a legendary establishment.
"Joe's Table for 2" would like to thank Angelo's for their hospitality and for serving fantastic Italian cuisine to the patrons of Atlantic City for over 80 years!
