Chris of "Joe's Table for 2" recently visited Ventura's Offshore Cafe in Northfield. Known for their great food, we decided to grab a bite at a place I haven't been to in a while.
The restaurant is nice and cozy in a dark setting. The whole building smells fantastic with the scent of cooking food. Our waitress, Laura, was one of the nicest people I had ever met. She truly was one of the best waitresses I've ever had!
This was a very interesting take on a grilled cheese sandwich. Buffalo mozzarella, fig jam, prosciutto and arugula served on a french baguette with a side of sweet potato fries. This was an interesting sandwich that was pretty satisfying. The part the interested me was the salt taste of the prosciutto combined with the sweet, fruitiness of the fig jam and the spice of the buffalo mozzarella cheese. This is one of those menu items where they just throw some cheese on bread and call it a sandwich, it was actually quite good!
I've had plenty of dishes at Ventura's. Salads, pasta, chicken Parmesan, you name it. On this trip, I decided to try something new yet simple. I came away eating something that I may try and make in my own home just to taste it again. Give it a try!
