Chris of "Joe's Table for 2" recently visited the Good Dog Bar in Philadelphia. A small place in the middle of the city that may go unnoticed, but an establishment that deserves recognition. Set in a 3 story rowhome, (the bottom floor being the bar) the Good Dog Bar serves up a menu with a variety of flavors and intriguing dishes.
The walls are decorated with hundreds of pictures of dogs. The place is nicely lit. Very cozy. The table we sat at was placed at a window that juts out over the side walk, giving a nice view of the life on 15th street.
Our waitress was incredibly down to earth and friendly. She found out that we had a birthday guest at our table and treated us to an appetizer on the house as a gift. The appetizer was the Thai Curry Meatballs, served with red coconut curry and peanuts. They were very delicious, with a spicy tang in the after taste. The peanuts were a nice addition to the dish.
For the entree, we sampled one of the bars key dishes: Baked Mac & Cheese. The dish consists of gruyere, aged gouda, aged cheddar, bechamel sauce and elbow macaroni, topped with corn flakes and served with warm blueberry cornbread. The mix of cheeses in the dish was an amazing combination and the topping of corn flakes added a crunchy finish. A very tasty dish that is worth a try!
Our experience at the Good Dog Bar was excellent and we have already made plans to return in the near future to partake in more menu items and happy hour specials. Hope you enjoy it just as much as we did!
