
Sicilian Beefsteak (Sicily)

Ingredients
Beef steaks - 6 small
Ripe tomatoes - 6 large
Olive oil - 1/2 cup
Garlic, crushed - 2 cloves
Black olives, pitted - 1/2 cup
Sliced small pickled sweet peppers - 1/2 cup
Celery, diced - 1/2 stalk
Capers - 2-3 tbsps
Salt and pepper
Finely chopped fresh oregano - 1 tsp
Peel and chop the tomatoes, discarding seeds. Heat the olive oil in a heavy frying pan andsaute the garlic cloves until brown. Discard them and sear the steaks in the same oil for 2 minutes on each side. Add the olives, peppers, celery, capers and tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper, and sprinkle with oregano. Cook for a few minutes longer. Serve at once, covered with the sauce.
