Roasted Sausages (Calabria)

Cut the sausages into 6 inch lengths and roll each length into a coil. Secure the coils with toothpicks, Wrap each coil seperately in dampened wax paper or foil, and roast in the ashes of a hearth for about 20 minutes. Serve on slices of toasted, homemade bread.
