Cuba Libre - Atlantic City

Rachel of “Joe’s Table for Two” recently visited Cuba Libre in Atlantic City. Cuba Libre resides in the Tropicana as a Cuban restaurant and night club.

This Cuban restaurant has great dishes and a traditional feel with a spirited twist.

They have beautiful chandeliers that give off an ambient lighting. The atmosphere is perfect for mature costumers. There is Cuban music playing lightly in the background. The Cuban flag hangs proud and matches the luxurious red curtains.  There is a play on  stone floors and walls with colorful glass pieces that are filled with Cuban charm.

The waitress was very nice and welcoming.  The Raspberry and Traditional mojito’s were delicious. There was toasted bread and sweet mango butter at the table as we waited for our food.

We had an appetizer of Tuna Ceviche that was very fresh with a subtle hint of citrus. I also ordered the Levanta Muerto Seafood Soup that had shrimp, bay scallops, crabmeat and mussels. The flavor of the soup was very complimentary to the seafood inside it. There was a nice hint of Cuban spices without any one flavor over powering another.

For the entrée my guest and I had Tapas or small tasting plates. We ordered the grilled baby Octopus, Maduros con Queso (friend plaintains), Spinach and Manchego Bunuelos and Coconut Crab Fritters. Each dish had a nice mix of flavor in each bite. The Octopus was cooked well with a delicious grilled taste. The Manduros had a hint of cinnamon that went surprisingly well with the drizzled cheese sauce. The Spinach puffs were crispy on the outside with a gooey center that melts in your mouth. The hint of goat cheese balanced well with the slight bitterness of the spinach. The Coconut Crab Fritters were very tasty and filled with seasonings and paired well with the sweet chili dipping sauce.

Our experience at Cuba Libre was excellent! The food is enough to make us want to go back but I would also recommend going to their night club. If you are looking for a nice night out with a Cuban twist, Cuba Libre may be your destination!
